SPECIAL deliveries are a common occurrence at Rockhampton Hospital’s Maternity Unit, but this week’s will help them save lives.

The hospital used a $20,000 donation from JM Kelly Group to buy a panda warmer.

The infant resuscitation unit will be used to resuscitate and incubate newborns, and monitor their vital signs.

Rockhampton Hospital executive director Bernadette Loughnane said the state-of-the-art piece of equipment would make caring for infants much easier.

And peace of mind for the safety of their newborns is one of the most important things mothers wish for when they go into the birthing room.

Mother-of-two Rachel Hardie was no different.

Her son, Xavier Kunst, was born prematurely, but she credited the safe delivery to the knowledge her baby would be safe with the newly-donated panda warmer nearby.

“It was reassuring to know we wouldn’t have to be flown to Brisbane straight away if something went wrong”, Rachel said.

JM Kelly construction manager John Murphy said JM Kelly was pleased to be able to provide such an important and versatile piece of life-saving equipment to the hospital.

“Our strong sense of community runs throughout the company, and our connection with the hospital runs deep due to our involvement with the upgrade project”, Mr Murphy said. back
